Spatiotemporal Nirvana

Spatiotemporal Nirvana – The Digital Rebirth of Gaotai" is a multi-channel video installation created by artist Zhu Wan in 2025. Utilizing generative AI technology, the work dynamically reconstructs archival photographs of the Chinese intangible cultural heritage project "Tonghai Gaotai" from seven different years between 1993 and 2014. Through this process, the piece activates and digitally resurrects cultural memory across time and space.

Presented in a looping, multi-screen format, the installation constructs a nonlinear temporal narrative. At the same time, it engages with the discourse of digital anthropology, particularly the concept of "media as archive." By "unfreezing" historical images through AI, the work reimagines the survival logic of intangible heritage in an era of technological evolution— both as a restoration of traditional memory and an experimental rehearsal for its future transmission.
